We have decided to rename the newsletter, because it seems that some filtering software was screening the newsletter from several of our grads. In the past the Newsletter has been named "Making More M$oney". I've put the $ sign in to hopefully fool the filtering software, today! I'm asking you to help with the re-naming process, keeping in mind the challenges that faces us with such software. (New Title to Be Determined) - The newsletter of CNP graduates and students. Providing a system to help our graduates to earn more, while saving time. Our goal is to STAMP out COLD CALLS! ---------------------------------------------------------- Dates to Remember ---------------------------------------------------------- Gillett Associates, Inc. September 21, Lunch at the Spaghetti Warehouse October 7, Next evening class series begins, 6 weeks 13, Final evening class series of the year, 6 weeks 14, Toledo Chamber Business After Hours 19, Lunch at the Spaghetti Warehouse 21, Student/Grad continuing education call, new number to call will be announced soon. 22, WEN conference at BGSU, 7 - 4:30 ------------------------------------------ Community Count ----------------------------------------- With 9 people taking the Friday morning daytime class, we now number 139 in our community. Do you think we're starting to make some noise in the business community? ----------------------------------------- Resources for You ----------------------------------------- From grad,* Greg Peters, Cyber Data Solutions*, regarding opening Excel spreadsheets. He says, "Does this sound familiar? You've just received an email with the electronic version of the CNP Networking Scorecard. You try to open it, only to discover that you don't have Microsoft Excel on your computer. What can you do? You could shell out $300-$400 for the MS Office Suite for each computer you own. If that seems a little pricey, then consider OpenOffice.org. This is an open source suite of programs that duplicates most of the features of MS Office. It has a word processor, a spreadsheet, and presentation software, each of which can open its counterpart Microsoft documents. The best part? It's free to download from www.openoffice.org. Just go to that site and follow the instructions to download and install. Note: This is a large file, so it might take a while to download. If you would prefer, there are also links to sites where you can purchase the CD for the latest version for less than $10, including shipping. ------------------------------------------- More Good Stuff -------------------------------------------- *David Bodner, Seymour & Associates, Mass Mutual*, recently lent me his CD album entitled "Networking With Millionaires." It is written by TJ Stanley, the same man who wrote, "The Millionaire Next Door." This 4 CD packet takes CNP to an even higher level. Because of taking the time to listen I now will be able to teach some of the later modules that much better. The insight gained will help each one of us work our networks in ways I had not thought of. Even though I listened to the CD, I have ordered a copy to have as a resource. For those who would like to do the same, I orderd from www.half.com and including delivery got the album for about $20. --------------------------------------------- Need Help --------------------------------------------- Debby will be exhibiting at the WEN conference for CNP on October 22nd. Because eveyone else associated with CNP will be busy, or out of town, she needs help that day. For the grad who will volunteer to help with the booth, she has already purchased a registration for the conference. Yep, that means you can attend for free. First person to volunteer and commit to the whole day will get her vote! --------------------------------------------- Reminder of VIP Visit --------------------------------------------- Ohio certainly has been targeted in the political process with visit after visit from each political party. We are equally important in the networking realm, with *Tom Fleming* visitig us in October. He will be speaking several times at the WEN conference and during his 3 day visit, there will be other opportunities to link with him. On Thursday, the Advisory Board and all the class MVPs have been invited to a Lunch and Learn with Tom. His be talking about networking mixers and how we can do them really well, but of course he will be open to questions about CNP in general. What an opportunity. For those of you new to our community, Tom Fleming developed the CNP program in Massachusetts when no one else in the country was doing it. He graduated 400 students! Tom will probably also visit the Thursday morning Madison Avenue BNI. Plan to meet this CNP star in whatever way you can manage. ------------------------------------------------ WEN/BNI networking ----------------------------------------------- Did you attend the first WEN/BNI Networking event on September 14th. Debby did and the room was full of buzz. She saw people making appointments and introducing themselves to others. She didn't see anyone sitting in a corner. Debby thought to herself, that the CNPers really show what networking is all about! Congratulations! ------------------------------------------------- CNP Lunches ------------------------------------------------- *Doug Clark* recently weighed in on the benefits of the lunches and networking in general. "There has been some conversation regarding networking events, their benefits and seeing the same people all the time. As a mortgage loan officer for *Fifth Third Bank*, for me the monthly CNP lunches are an added bonus that we receive from being part of our network. The lunches provide me the opportunity to meet new people, develop relationships and learn new ideas. Networking events provide Visibility. As we develop our relationships, Credibility is enhanced. It is up to us to make it Profitable. At a recent lunch I had the opportunity to meet someone new. This new contact is now able to introduce me to someone in my Contact Sphere. Be patient, it takes time." We couldn't have said it better, Doug! ---------------------------------------------------- *Deb Hornstein. The Danberry Company* --------------------------------------------------- Deb would like to mention that she is proud to have been the catalist behind the formation of the Affordable Housing Committee at the Toledo Board of Realtors and a certification for our members that goes before our Board of Directors at the September meeting for approval. Also, it will be her pleasure to Chair this committee in 2005. --------------------------------------------------- Sales for Lisa O --------------------------------------------------- *Lisa Olvera, Corporate Intelligence Consultants*, reports that she has now moved into a sales position. During the 4th Quarter she will balance sales and her current administrative position. With the begnning of the new year she will be using her CNP knowledge to the fullest. ------------------------------------------------- Wearing Many Hats ------------------------------------------------- *Merri Bame, Breaking Down Barriers*, shares, "This month I'm pleased to announce both a business and a pleasure accomplishment. For Breaking Down Barriers, I have entered the hospital culture! Within three hours of presenting a training on Emotional Intelligence Basics to a group of social workers, I had a clinic on board as a new client! Referrals work powerfully when those carrying the baton have the emotional-based marketing message (and the need!) For Ms. Rose's Dinner Theatre, I am again proud to *direct* *Escanaba in da Moonlight* for the third year! The community can see this show with dinner theatre from Sept 15 - mid November." -------------------------------------------------- Reaching Into His Community -------------------------------------------------- *Gary Thompson, Gilette Associates,* Chris Did It! ------------------------------------------------- *Chris Odom* reports that after one whole year of preparation *MS Chris Did Catering *is in it's new place, 343 New Towne Square, Lakeside Center (formally North Town Mall). A new catering job came along with the move as we will be preparing daily lunches for the Charter School that has just opened at the same location. Chris says that she passed her first two inspections with flying colors with Health Department. ------------------------------------------------ New Contract ------------------------------------------------ *Michael Temple* of *Temple Development Company* was just awarded a large contract by Paramount Healthcare to implement GoldMine for the entire marketing department. The contract will take approximately a month to fully complete. ------------------------------------------------ Using CNP in Every Avenue of Life ------------------------------------------------ *Tracy Cox, BottomLine Bookkeeping*, has been able to use her networking knowledge learned in CNP in another part of her life. She is in charge of the Children's Ministry at her church. Reaching out to people and asking more about them in conversation, making phone calls and having get togethers to get to know each other has proved very beneficial in her recruiting efforts. She now has a full and excited staff leading and teaching the children for the school year! ---------------------------------------------- Not Last, But # 1! ---------------------------------------------- For the 3rd consecutive month, *Bob Link, Stevens Moving and Storage *has been #1 in the company (out of 37 salespeople). He is also NOW #1 in the company year-to-date. Bob reports that he reached this level after 4 years at Stevens. He has surpassed many salespeople with 10+ years experience. ----------------------------------------------------------------- That's all for this month. Don't forget to register for the WEN conference so you can get to meet and talk with Tom Fleming. debby
